16U boys at the 2016 Junior Olympics

The 16U boys traveled to San Jose, California for the 2016 Junior Olympics. They had a great time eating Inn-N-Out, catching Pokemon, doing combat rolls, and all around enjoying a lot of team togetherness between games.

Our first two games on Saturday resulted in losses to two teams from California; SB Premier and SJ Express. Our second game was lost with a goal differential of just two, 6-4. Our team made quite the comeback on Sunday winning all three games Third Coast (a team from Michigan), Valley Water Polo and our last game of the day against Sac Black A where our team played smart press defense and helped back on center when needed making many steals that lead to counter attack goals and handling that team for an 11-6 win.

Monday morning we took a hard loss against Royal Red B 10-7. We recovered and won our next game 13-11 and went on to play for 9th place in the Bronze Division, winning 9-3 versus Escondido Riptides. That win meant for the entire Classic Division, we finished 33rd out of 48 teams. Overall, the boys learned a lot about water polo, how to play at a higher level and specifically to play higher out of the water, to continue attacking to create advantage and to control the ball on the perimeter. The work they put in leading up to the tournament paid off in their defense and motion offense and they’re excited to start a new fall league and put the skills they learned into action.
